When i got my first 3D printer about 10 years ago I told myself i would use it for practical purposes, and that held true for a little while until i realized how much of a pain it was to use manually level a printer bed with a small piece of paper. Nowadays this isnt an issue with modern printers and that lets us print much more complex models that we would have never even attempted to do back then such as making models of the toys we had when we were young. As a child my favorite cartoon was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and one of my favorite toys was the Party Wagon. When i discovered that Printformers had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed transformer that turned into the Party Wagon i was 100% sold on it and knew it would take a fairly high place on my list of prints to do. I purchased this for $27 USD and finally got it printed and assembled this week.
The transformation process is pretty straightforward, in robot mode it looks like any transformer toy that you ever played with.
In car mode it is exactly how i remember the party wagon toy from my childhood looking, albeit without functional wheels.
Overall its a really great model and went together fairly well. The creator (Printformers) made his model using ABS, i chose to use one of my favorite PLA brands, PrintBed Filament. I opted to use all full slate of their colors, including their Limited Edition Nacho Cheese color. In hindsight though, PLA may not have been the best choice for material as its very stiff so at times i needed to use a little SuperLube on the connections/joints to get things moving easily. The overall build time was probably about an hour and a half off and on, including dry time for superglue. There are small channels in some of the parts that are used for placing paper clips as pins, i found that some were really tight and had to be worked in with a pair of needle nose pliers whereas others were loose and needed a drop of superglue to affix them in the channel.
Overall it was a very enjoyable model to print and build and having a version of one of my favorite childhood toys that i built myself was pretty awesome. I will probably add Printformers Marvelous Prime and Skorpion models to my list of models to purchase and print in the future as well.
