The final two weeks of the year are here, so we might as well add a few more Christmas prints to our P.o.t.W! (Prints of the Week) As always these prints are available to vote for in the Thangs Maker League contest. Make sure you check out all the great prints shared by the Thangs community. While there, consider giving our makes a like! You can find my makes listed under Miak3D.
This week’s PotW include models by TheCraftyMaker, 3dprintbunny, cbobo2uco and 3dprintingworld
Print #1 – Christmas Shadow Box (B) by TheCraftyMaker
TheCraftyMaker jumped onto the 3d printing scene earlier this year with his innovative shadow box designs. These prints involve multiple thin plates stacked in front of each other to create an amazing 3d visual. I enjoy making these shadow boxes. This year I have printed 6 of them. If you are looking for some fun, creative prints, checkout TheCraftyMaker. Subscribe to his Thangs membership if you want to support his awesome designs.
Filaments used: PrintBed French Vanilla, Midnight Blue, Blue, Frost. Overture Pale Yellow, FilamentOne Light Blue
Print #2 – Quilling Snowflake Decoration by 3dprintbunny
This is the 3rd consecutive “P.o.t.W’s” to feature a 3dprintbunny design. That should tell you something. This week’s model is also Christmas themed: a snowflake in what she calls “a paper quilling design”. It involves multiple layers of thin lines that form a beautiful snowflake.
Filaments used: PrintBed Frost, White
Print #3 – Christmas Tree Tealight by TheCraftyMaker
One more Christmas print for the week, and another TheCraftyMaker design. This Christmas Tree has a hole in the bottom for a tea-light to light up the lithophanes. This print gave me some trouble. It would get about 3/4 of the way to the top and then the thin tree pieces would vibrate back and forth, causing it to detach from the bed. After more failures than I’d like to admit, I ended up adding random supports to help stabilize and finish the print. Even though it took a lot of time and filament, it was worth it.
Filaments used: FilamentOne Glint Evergreen, PrintBed French Vanilla, PrintBed Pirates Gold
Print #4 – Print in Place Cyberpunk Capsule by cbobo2uco
This is my favorite print this week! A futuristic styled print in place capsule that opens the top up with a rotating ring on the bottom. I chose to print this with a tricolor (red-green-blue) silk filament. Look how beautiful the filament made the print turn out! If you opt to print this, it does take a good amount of time to loosen the gears up. Tip: Use something to lubricate the gears if it keeps catching.
Filaments used: GVNTNTP Silk Magic Red-Blue-Green
Print #5 – Collapsing Multi-Part Drill Sword by 3dprintingworld
Do you like swords of various styles? Do you also also like collapsable prints? If you nodded your head, yes, then you should take a look at 3dprintingworld’s work. 3dprintingworld creates awesome swords with blades that collapse into themselves. I opted to print the drill sword due to the way the sword blade twists. Careful though, if you flick your wrist too hard, the pieces of the blade may stick together; thus, making it hard to collapse back into the handle.
I wanted to do something a special with this print. I chose to print the blade with Esun’s Luminous Rainbow, a multicolor glow in the dark filament. If you like this style of prints you should definitely check out his Thangs membership!
Filaments used: PrintBed Pirates Gold, Esun Luminous Rainbow, Proto-Pasta Texas Tea Black
Remember, all these makes are all waiting for likes at the Thangs Maker League. Check back next week for the new “Prints of the Week”!
