With the final week of the year upon us, I figured it would be great to finish the year out with some more amazing holiday prints and one gift I made for someone. As always these prints are available to vote for in the Thangs Maker League contest. Make sure you check out all the great prints shared by the Thangs community. While there, consider giving our makes a like! You can find my makes listed under Miak3D.
This week’s “PotW” include models by: Skipper07, TomoDesigns, kardes.Design, RetroMaker and 3DPrinty
Print #1 Christmas Cake by Skipper07
This model resembles a Christmas style cake with a gingerbread house and trees. When you look over this Skipper07 design, you get a real sense of his modeling style. Everything is very well-thought-out and optimized for easier, cleaner multi-color printing. His bio states that he loves helping create a world of imagination for his son, and it definitely shows. I have added so many of his beautiful designs to my print list…it’s silly. Be on the lookout for more of Skipper07’s models popping up here.
Filaments Used: FilamentOne Glint Evergreen, FilamentOne Glint Red, FilamentOne Glint Gold, PrintBed White, PrintBed Lavender, PrintBed Grey, Polymaker Polyterra Earth Brown, Overture Pale Yellow
Print #2 – Jumpy Snowman by TomoDesigns
These cute little snowmen have springy legs, so you can make them jump! I haven’t been able to get a successful jump yet, but my kids love them. Something thing I really appreciate about this design are the screw on top hats. This really saves time with multicolor prints. Overall this model is a great little model that prints quickly!
Filaments Used: PrintBed White, PrintBed Black, PrintBed Orange
Print #3 – Arctic Glow Christmas Lanterns by kardes.Design
This was hands down my favorite print of the week! These lanterns are designed in two pieces and have various inserts that can be printed and slid into the sides. Thankfully, there is a pre-painted 3mf included, so you can easily print multicolor lanterns. I opted to make 3 of them in different colors, and they all printed beautifully! There is even an area inside for a tea-light, so you can light them up. How cool is that! I highly recommended this model!
Filaments Used: FilamentOne Glint Red, FilamentOne Glint Green, FilamentOne Glint Gold, PrintBed White, PrintBed Black, PrintBed Frost
Print #4 – Toy Train and Presents Around the Tree by RetroMaker
This is a multi-piece print composed of various models designed by RetroMaker, all mashed into one. I opted to print the tree at 150%, and it fit perfectly around the tree skirt, the presents, and the train track. The tree is hollow on the inside, allowing you to add a tea-light under it. Note, I did not try it, But please comment with a photo if you do. The neat thing about this is that the train can actually “move” around the track, too. My kids love this feature. This was a great Christmas print that I think everyone would enjoy. I did have one issue with one of the presents, it kept detached from the print bed, so I am missing one gift around the tree :/
Filament Used: FilamentOne Glint Evergreen, FilamentOne Glint Gold, PrintBed Red, PrintBed Green, PrintBed Grey, Polymaker Polyterra Earth Brown
Print #5 – Barrel Cooper’s Puzzle Box by 3DPrinty
If you are a fan of printing puzzle boxes you might already be familiar with 3DPrinty’s work. My son is a HUGE fan of puzzles. Every year, for his birthday and Christmas, I print him a puzzle box with some cash in it, for him to solve. Usually he solves them pretty quickly, but this one had him stumped more than I had anticipated. Overall it’s a great print with multiple moving parts and hidden compartments. 3DPrinty also has a Donkey Kong themed puzzle box that would be a “Must Print” for any Nintendo loving puzzle fan!
Filaments Used: Jessie Brown, Jessie Golden Winner Gold
Remember, all these makes are all waiting for likes at the Thangs Maker League. Check back next week for the new “Prints of the Week”!
